Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has teamed up with Trine Games to develop a videogame based on the upcoming Bollywood Sci-Fi flick R.A One.

The game  is being made in Mumbai by Trine Games with SCEE’s London studio closely overlooking the development work. It’ll serve as a prequel to the movie and will introduce key film characters. The story of the game has been written by Shah Rukh Khan, a famous Bollywood superstar who’s also playing the lead role in the movie.

“We have always wanted to bring Bollywood IPs on PlayStation platform as the way of connecting to Indian audience,” Atindriya Bose, Country Manager of Playstation India said

“RA.ONE has the right mix of action, environment and imagination that is required to make a good PlayStation game, and with Shah Rukh Khan immense passion and understanding of PlayStation games, we have chanced upon a very unique opportunity of a great game with Indian IP.”

This is the first movie-to-video game adaptation of a high-profile Bollywood movie. R.A One: The Game will feature more than 6 unique characters and more than 20 playable levels from the movie.

This is indeed a first for India, and although it might seem like a risk for now, but Sony has made a really good move and it might make the Playstation brand more popular in India. R.A One is the most hyped up movie release scheduled for this year and Indians are crazy about movies. With the right amount of promotion, it might sell better than any other Playstation game has ever sold in India.

India currently has a install base of around 95,000 PS3s and around 6,75,000 PS2s according to Sony India.

R.A One: The Game will be releasing for PS2 and PS3 (PSN only). The game will be releasing near the end of September alongside the movie.
