Capcom’s next competitive fighter won’t use either of its current solutions to the lag problem.
“I can tell you officially were not using the actual GGPO [Good Game Peace Out] netcode that you know and love in its current form,” producer Yoshinori Ono told Siliconera. “I can also say it is not using the Street Fighter IV netcode as is.
“There are going to be distinct changes and improvements. I can’t talk about those improvements or the system right now. There are still some kinks that we’re working out with the netcode.”
GGPO is used in several Capcom fighters, and compensates for latency by piling it onto animations rather than input sequences. The precise timing required of high level fighters has made the genre’s transition to the age of global online multiplayer a difficult one, with both of Capcom’s current systems drawing criticism.
Street Fighter x Tekken is due on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and possible PS Vita in early March 2012.
