Study: Fatty Foods Get You HIGH?

You know how how you open up a pint of ice cream to take a few bites and then the next thing you know the whole pint is gone? Is that just me? I mean, it’s only with Ben and Jerry’s Cherry Garcia, I can total control myself with vanilla! And I do wash it down with a diet coke!

Well anyways…researchers at the University of Califronia, Irvine found that the reason fatty foods are so addictive is because they release a natural marijuana-like chemical in your body called endocannabinoids that actually makes you high. Long story short, that’s why eating fatty foods feels sooo good!

(source)

They discovered that when rats tasted something fatty, cells in their stomach started producing endocannabinoids. And then the production of that chemical leads to what researcher Daniele Piomelli calls "the wanton intake of fatty foods.” Here’s a wanton rat…after smoking a doobie. Whassup with that tail boner?

Now, from an evolutionary stand-point, pigging out on high fat content foods makes sense because back in the day they used to be scarce, and when you found some…you needed to eat as much as possible. But now fatty foods are abundant to say the least. So you’re just being a pig

This is getting all which came first the chicken or the egg for me...I mean, doesn’t getting high make you get the munchies? But more importantly...does this mean Taco Bell is actually good before you're high? Science!!! You raise more questions than you answer!!

Okay, so the munchies make you high. Maybe James Franco just ate a huge In-N-Out double double animal style before the Oscars?

The findings suggest it might be possible to curb this tendency by obstructing the endocannabinoid activity. BLOCK IT?? Are you crazy? I’m about to down what I like to call a whole jumbo pack of bacon sandwich!

So what do you all think? Do you feel high after eating fatty foods? Let’s get all science-y in the comments!
