7 Academy Award Nominee's WTF Follow-Up Films

James Franco wasn’t monkeying around when he starred as a guy who gets stuck between a rock and a hard place in the movie 127 Hours. In fact, he was so convincing playing a dude who has to cut off his own arm that he got nominated for an Academy Award.

So how did he follow up this awesome Hollywood moment? By starring in a movie called Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Yeeeeah. But Franco’s not the first awesome actor to make questionable career choices – here are six more actors who starred in some real post-Oscar nomination stinkers.

6. Natalie Portman

There’s no denying that Natalie Portman is a super-talented actress and Hollywood took notice when she played a crazy ballerina in Black Swan. How did she show her appreciation after taking home the statue? She followed up with not one but three total bombs – the awkward rom-com No Strings Attached, Thor, and Your Highness, which also starred Franco. Oh well, 1 out of four ain't bad! Actually...yes it is.

5. Jesse Eisenberg

Jesse Eisenberg totally nailed it when he played nerdy genius Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network. This month he plays a poor sucker who gets a bomb strapped to him in the comedy (yes, you read that right, it’s a comedy) 30 Minutes or Less. Sounds like a real blast…not!

4. Halle Berry

Halle Berry got everyone’s attention when she downplayed her hotness to play a troubled woman whose husband is killed on death row in Monster’s Ball. But everyone soon forgot her amazing performance when she donned a tiny bikini and dumbed it up as a Bond girl in Die Another Day.

3. Eddie Murphy

Eddie Murphy has had more than one dud in his career, but everyone thought he had turned a new leaf when he got a nomination for Dreamgirls. Tthen Norbit came out and everyone quickly remembered he was Eddie Murphy.

2. Anne Hathaway

Before Anne Hathaway and James Franco awkwardly hosted the Oscars together, she was nominated for her role as a recovering alcoholic who is in her sister’s wedding in Rachel Getting Married. But she quickly drove people to drink with her follow-up wedding-themed movie: the groan-out-loud chick-flick, Bride Wars. Talk about awkward!

1. Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock is America’s movie sweetheart - she’s starred in some of the greatest rom-coms of all time, with some of the hottest actors (cough Ryan Reynolds)! She finally won an Academy Award for her role as a sassy Southern mother in The Blind Side, but the same year she also got a Razzie Award for worst actress for her role as a stalker in the “comedy” All About Steve. Proving once and for all that she is an actress with tremendous range!
