Grasshopper Manufactuter has announced at gamescom Black Knight Sword, a 2D platformer with a “picture book” aesthetic.
The developer explained that the dev team’s aim is to create something which will contain unique “visuals”, but at the same time possess “very familiar” gameplay
“Black Knight Sword is a fully Grasshopper-developed title. It’s a blend of old meets new, classic meets fresh,” the studio said at the unveiling. “This is a side-scrolling action title inspired by Japanese theatre drama. It’s also a modern interpretation of a picture book-type game, with old-school action gameplay.
“Even through the development is being handled by Grasshopper, the partnership with Digital Reality on the European continent has influenced the setting, tone and background. There’s a lot of European soul injection in there.”
Black Knight Sword is in development for PSN, and Xbox Live and is expected to release in “January or February” next year.
