Have you ever been eating the body of animal and said to yourself, "Gosh, I wish this animal was still squirming with its last throes of life as I bit into it." Well, in Japan you can get just that. Sort of.
"Dancing Squid," or Odori-don, is a traditional dish served in Japan where the head is removed and served as sashimi and the rest of the squid is served on a bed of rice. Soy Sauce creates a chemical reacction that causes the body to whip around frantically or "dance" so you can feel like you are crushing the life out of a living thing while you eat it.
The dish is illegal in Australia, and although I don't think something should be outlawed merely because it's disturbing, it would make me pretty uncomfortable to go to a restaurant that perfected a way to make steak scream for me to stop as I ate it. Seeing these videos has also made me rethink my plan to invent a kind of pizza that shrieks, "I beg you please stop I have children!" when you bite it, and yell, "Oh God my skin! Your tearing off my very skin!" when you eat the cheese.
I still remember the first time I ate Odori-don and the squid I hate turned out to be Squidward. I felt awful, and I only felt worse when I heard that the Krusty Krab had to hire a new worker. What have I done. What... have... I done?
