Fans are up in arms over the news that the classic flicks Footloose and Dirty Dancing are both being remade for new audiences. While it’s hard for many of us to picture anyone other than Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey grinding on each other or Kevin Bacon in a tractor fight, many of us die-hard fans will probably go check the remakes out (but only to complain how bad they are compared to the original). Here’s my list of ten movies they should never EVER attempt to remake!
10. The Goonies
This classic kid’s flick from the 1980s had it all: a family of bandits, a lovable deformed guy, gold, and a pirate ship. Watching the Goonies go on an adventure of a lifetime right in their own backyard before cell phones and computers kept people inside, captured the imagination of a generation.
9. 16 Candles
No one remembers Sam’s birthday but that’s okay – she still gets hunky Jake Ryan in the end. It would be hard to recapture the chemistry of the original cast and no one can replace Molly Ringwald.
8. Flashdance
Jennifer Beals as a welder/dancer started an entire ripped sweatshirt craze. Although many actresses have tried to recreate her famous dance numbers (including J-Lo) it’s hard to picture anyone else giving audiences “that feeling.”
7. Casablanca
“Here’s looking at you,” is a line that should only come out of Humphrey Bogart’s mouth.
6. Labyrinth
Although David Bowie could probably still fit into those tight leather pants he wore in the sci-fi flick, it’s probably best if he left those tucked away in his closet.
5. Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure
Updating this classic would take away from its creepy charm.
4. The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Tim Curry’s heels and fishnets are a tough act to follow.
3. The Wizard of Oz
Millions of people grew up watching Dorothy skip down the yellow brick road and many people have tried bringing it back to the big screen without much success. Leave Dorothy and her little dog Toto alone!
2. Titanic
I’ll never let go…of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.
1.Star Wars
Seriously, the prequels were bad enough – don’t even try to touch the originals.
What movies do you hope they never remake? Let me know.
