Next month Warner Brothers will launch an experimental television show exclusively on Facebook. What's the experimental part, you might be asking? Well, this show will import your Facebook profile and personalize the show for each viewer. I don't know what makes them think that people who share every location they're at, every photo they take and every thought in their head would be interested in being the star of their very own TV show?!?! Can we get a love button, those people are probably thinking!
The show is called Aim High and is about a teen who is a high school student by day, and a spy by night. Well I guess when you think of Facebook you think of spying, so that makes sense. The show will be directed by uber-douche director McG and will star Jackson Rathbone, who is most famous for nearly tearing Bella Swan's head off when she got a paper cut in New Moon. God I love that scene. It had so much potential. This show? Not so much.
So how exactly does this 'social series' work? Well, it's all related to the new multi-media applications that Facebook announced last week. Viewers of the show will be asked to opt-in and then the sharing will begin! The music you have on your playlist will be the show's soundtrack. Pictures of your friends acting like idiots will be added digitally. Ummm...if I wanna watch a show with a bunch of people acting like a-holes, I'll watch Jersey Shore, thank you very much.
And the best part is...YOU will get some screen time! Your photo will be used on a poster as a fictional student running for class president. Or your name might be seen spray-painted onto a wall. Yay...[insert sad trombone sound] awwww, you'll always have mirror fail pictures!
As lame as it sounds, I'm sure a lot of people will do it. 'Fame,' 'friendship,' 'purpose'...what sarcastically air-quoted things doesn't Facebook offer us? All in an effort to feel 'connected.' Am I the only one starting to feel like I'm living in a dystopian sci-fi novel?
What do you think? Do you want to be a part of the Facebook TV show? Let me know @desijedeikin or in the comments below!
