Towards the end of the Harry Potter series, a lot of beloved characters started getting themselves Avada Kedavra'd to death. We bore witness to the deaths of Hedwig the Owl, Mad Eye Moody, Twilight Guy, and even Dumbledore. Of course, that one was Dumbledore's fault- he should've known better than to continue being a mentor at the end of any story's penultimate act.

But they were all ultimately expendable, as long as our core trio, Harry, Ron, and Hermione, made it out alive. But now, in an interview with Daniel Radcliffe for the upcoming Blu Ray release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two, Rowling reveals that she very seriously considered killing Ron somewhere during the mid-point of writing the series.
"Be thankful I limit my killings to fiction."

Rowling said she was going to kill Ron "out of sheer spite", but really, the only people she would spite are the fans who love her characters. Is she settling personal vendettas by killing off the favorite characters of those who wrong her?
"If I was going to block in J.K Rowling's car, I should have at least removed my "I heart Sirius" bumper sticker."

And if Ron had been killed off, hopefully it would have been no later than Bill and Fleur's wedding from Deathly Hallows, because after that is roughly 1400 pages of wandering through the woods while Harry and Ron argue about portkeys or Sectumsempras or whatever. There aren't a lot of scenes in Harry Potter I would've rather seen cut than this one. Well, maybe the Grawp chapters from Order of the Phoenix. Or all that time trying to figure out the egg in Goblet of Fire. Or absolutely anything from Chamber of Secrets. Hmm. You know, I'll be honest, when I started thinking of moments I didn't like in this series, I thought it would be much, much harder.
Jesus, do I even like Harry Potter?
All that said, Rowling did go on to say that, deep in her heart of hearts, she probably knew all along that the three main characters would survive. So don't worry, Weasley fans, Ron was almost certainly always going to make it through and end up with Hermione in a flat, loveless marriage.
"I wish you were a different person almost all the time."
