Activision is on the look out for those holding a pirated copy of Modern Warfare 3 after partial copies of the PC version started popping up online.
Apparently, an employee at a shipping warehouse in California nicked disc two out of one of the sets, but was unable to attain disc one.
Investigators contracted by Activision are going to the homes of known owners of a pirated version, and asking them to turn over the copy rather than face a fine of up to $5,000 and a permanent ban from playing online.
Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2 faced similar leaks before the games were officially released, and the same tactics were employed by the firm last year over the leak.
The Modern Warfare 3 leak has prompted a Craigslist user claiming to have been busted for piracy last year, to post a warning advising folks to comply with the firm, otherwise, the authorities will “come get you.”
MW3 is officially out on November 8. Thanks, VentureBeat.
