Sega Sammy’s consumer division posted a 13% year-on-year decrease for the last six months, which the publisher blamed on “weak” international markets and poor sales.
Of Sega’s three major titles published during the first half of its financial year, the Western-exclusive Captain America: Super Soldier sold best, with 450,000 copies.
Kinect-based horror Rise of Nightmares sold just 200,000, as did the Japan-exclusive PSP soccer management title Sakatsuku 7 Euro Plus.
Of the nine 3DS titles Sega had intended to publish over the six month period, just two materialised, managing only 30,000 units sold.
The consumer division brought in just ¥33.4 billion in sales. Sega put the poor performance down to “weak” markets in Europe and the US, plagued by “sluggish personal consumption”.
Overall, Sega Sammy pulled in ¥152.6 billion in sales, a 29.9% drop on last year but better than predicted in the company’s forecasts. Profits rounded out at ¥3.9 billion, a staggering 84% decrease year on year.
