GamePro throws in the towel after 22 years

The venerable GamePro brand – which began life as a magazine in 1989 – is being retired.

IndustryGamers reports both GamePro magazine and its sister website, founded in 1996, have called it quits. The site’s URL will soon redirect users to fellow IDG outlet PC World, and the November issue will be the last GamePro magazine.

An IDG representative said advertising revenue was insufficient to support the business, and that staff cuts are being made. It’s not clear how this decision will affect GamePro’s international arms.

The remaining US GamePro team will continue to be led by Marci Yamaguchi Hughes, but will be “refocusing its US business exclusively on its growing custom publishing and solutions business” – producing publications for other business, like E3’s Daily.

We wish all affected staff the best of luck and bid GamePro a fond farewell.
