Tactical, turn-based squad shooter Frozen Synapse comes with a second free copy for you to give to a friend – but half of them haven’t been used.
Mode 7’s Paul Taylor gave the figure in a post-mortem published on GamesBrief. The giveaway allowed early adopters to easily rope in a multiplayer partner – but as a graph of the game’s sales shows, the launch window in May this year brought plenty of players regardless.
The developer also revealed that the game’s full development and marketing costs came in at around £140,000. Over 300,000 copies have been sold, and although the majority were shifted during sales, the game brought in enough revenue to enable Mode 7 to move on with its next project.
In fact, during the game’s beta period, Frozen Synapse brought in revenues of $135,000, allowing the team to go full-time on it.
