The latest word on Ubisoft’s Wii U exclusive shooter Killer Freaks from Outer Space is that it was once set to feature the French publisher’s most recognisable characters.
A NeoGAF poster claims the game was first conceived of in 2010 by Ubisoft Montpellier as “Killer Rabbids”, and was destined for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
The mismatch between the Rabbid’s usual, family-friendly tone and that of a shooter is said to be responsible for the change in focus. The direction shift is dated to late 2012 or early 2011.
Killer Freaks from Outer Space is expected to be a Wii U launch title. As well as a gyroscopically-controlled shooter mode, it features a two player versus mode where one character uses the tablet to place enemies.
Thanks, GoNintendo.
