Square Enix has announced it’s to open a brand new studio in Montreal alongside the currently-existing Eidos Montreal.

The news comes via a press conference today in an announcement made by Square Enix Europe president Phil Rogers, relayed by the director of the Montreal International Gaming Summit, Marie Claude Bernard.

A new studio from Square in Canada was rumoured as far back as March.

Here’s the studio’s logo.

The first project for the brand new studio will be a Hitman-related project.

A Hitman project, Absolution, is currently in the works for PS3, 360 and PC from IO Interactive for a release next year.

It’s also been confirmed that 100 new jobs will be created at Eidos Montreal.

Bernard said in a tweet: “100 new jobs for Eidos Montreal!”

It’s a continuing roll of good news for the Deus Ex developer following the success of Human Revolution’s release in August.

It was reported in September that 100 new jobs would come into play by the end of next year, with a remaining 250 jobs – making up a headcount of 350 – in place by 2015.

The studio has a second team working on a fourth Thief iteration, with a brand new IP also in the works.
