Facebook's Most Talked About Topics And Memes Of 2011

Desi Jedeikin

Facebook has just released its year-end list of not only everything we've been talking about all year on Facebook, but how we talk about it! And if you're like me, there's nothing you like more than scientific research that tells you more about yourself and those in your life. Isn't it great to live in this Age of Narcissism? WAY better than the Renaissance! So what were we talking about this year? Well, top topics included Charlie Sheen, COD: MW3 and the Royal Wedding. We weren't 100% shallow though, the TOP topic was the death of Osama bin Laden. Even though most of that was probably idiots criticizing Obama, dummies asking who he was or people using his death to threaten the lives of Justin Bieber and Rebecca Black.

The movie most discussed was... no duh, the final Harry Potter movie. With Twilight coming in second. Again. Just give it up, Twihards. You know the only reason Twilight made number two was because of all the chatter about what a steaming bowl of caca it is. When are we all gonna admit how gross it is that an adult wolfman is crushing on a newborn baby?? You don't see Dumbledore horseplaying in the gym showers with Seamus Finnegan!?! 'NUFF SAID!

Of course planking was deemed the most popular meme of the year, peaking in May. We can only wonder what idiotic photo meme might be next. Actually, we don't have to wonder, because Smosh's own Jessica Poter has some wonderful suggestions.  Personally I like Fetusing. It's kind of my go to pose anyway and I like to be as organic as possible when attempting to create a meme.

There's lots of other boring stats, about top sports teams and news channels and blableedeeblah. But I have to mention the top fictional characters. Smosh favorites Dr. House and Mario made the list. And Patrick from Spongebob comes in at number three! WHA?? This is not madness!

I saved the most annoying trend for last. Deep breath. The hot new abbreviation this year was lms. Followed by tbh. I have to confess, I'm kind of jealous that something as unmeaningful as a "like," something that literally takes no thought or sacrifice on the part of the "liker," can boost people's self-esteem and confidence. It would just make me feel pathetic and desperate tbh. Especially when I do it and no one responds. lms if you think I'm pretty and funny! Hello? Is anyone out there? Mom?
