Trine 2 PC and Mac version to release December 7, consoles to follow

By Brenna Hillier

Frozenbyte will begin a platform-staggered launch for co-operative puzzle platformer Trine 2 this week.

The Mac and PC versions will be first out the door, in Steam and physical form, on December 7. It will come in standard and collector’s edition flavours, the latter sporting a digital artbook and soundtrack.

Interestingly, the press release announcing the release makes note of the game’s timed DRM; while all PC versions will initially use Steamworks, Frozenbyte expects to release a DRM-free version in 2012, in line with its past participation in initiatives like the Humble Bundles.

Possibly this move is related to the game’s physical release, which is being handled by Focus Home Interactive. The physical collector’s edition swaps in a real artbook.

The console versions arrive in the US later this month, with the PlayStation 3 version dropping December 20 – except in Europe, where it is promised “in time for the holidays”. The Xbox Live version goes global on December 21.
