Ace Attorney 5 inbound, original trilogy going HD

By Brenna Hillier

It’s been a fabulous weekend for fans of shouting “Objection!” into their microphones and solving some of the most patently ridiculous puzzles this side of point-and-click adventure.

At an event marking the franchise’s tenth anniversary over the weekend, Capcom announced the development of Gyakuten Saiban 5, which is yet to receive an English title or confirmation of western release.

Siliconera reports no further details were shared, so we’re not sure which platform to expect it on – probably the 3DS, given the series’s primary association with Nintendo handhelds.

Additionally, the first three games in the Ace Attorney series (Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney; Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Justice for All; Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Trials and Tribulations), which originally appeared on the Game Boy Advance, are in line for a long-overdue overhaul in the form of HD re-releases on iOS platforms. Famitsu has some screens of the HD remakes. The fourth entry, Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, probably needs a little more time to age gracefully, as it was the first developed with the DS as primary platform.

In addition to the four games mentioned above, the franchise spawned a two-part spin off-series starring Phoenix Wright’s primary antagonist, Miles Edgeworth – and a crossover game with Level-5, Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney. You can see some screenshots of the latter’s animated cut-scenes, which have been produced by studio Bones, on Andriasang.
