EB Games confirms $600 Wii U price tag purely speculative

By Brenna Hillier

An EB Games Australia representative said a whopping local price tag for the Wii U added to the retailer’s website in December is a placeholder.

The representative noted both that the price is “subject to change”, and that it’s “not even in [the store accessible] system yet”.

EB Games Australia was the first of the major local retailers to put a tentative price on the Wii U in Australia late last year, plumping for AUD $598 (€480/£400/$627). Australian games and hardware prices are typically higher than international levels, even after currency conversion.

The Wii U is expected to launch during 2012 after a full reveal at E3, and is expected to have similar specifications to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, comparable models and bundles of which run from $400-$475 depending on the retailer.
