Capcom announced additional details on the newly-announced Resident Evil 6, as well as show off the first trailer for the Resident Evil Chronicles HD Collection.
The anticipated sequel was announced last night for a surprise November launch on PS3 and Xbox 360, and confirmed Leon Kennedy and Chris Redfield as its main playable characters.
After its debut trailer aired for the audience, executive producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi, who had been appearing on stage throughout the show, came back out again with director Eichiro Sasaki and producer Yoshaki Hirabayashi by his side.
The three then proceeded to show some of the game’s concepts. Kobayashi promised RE6 would emphasise more on fear this time around with a game of the highest quality.
Besides the previously-confirmed protagonists of Leon and Chris, there’s also a third protagonist who’s name is being kept secret for now by the development team. It was also confirmed that Leon’s partner in the game is a US government agent named Helena Harper.
Both Leon and Chris’s stories, which take place on the tenth anniversary of the Raccoon City incident, will take place at the same time as each other.
The relationship between the unknown protagonist and the girl alongside him shown in the trailer, who looks a lot like Ashley from Resident Evil 4, was teased when it was questioned if they were allies or enemies. The regenerating enemy that was also shown in the debut video is called Javo.
On the gameplay side, players will get a wide array of moves. Hirabayashi promised Resident Evil 6 would be the biggest game yet in the series in terms of scale.
Resident Evil 6 launches worldwide on November 20, with a Japanese release on November 22. A PC SKU will follow the launch of the console versions.
The first trailer for the BioHazard Chronicles HD Collection, as it’s known in Japan, was also shown at the event following its initial announcement back in October.
It will feature the previously Wii exclusive on-rails shooters The Umbrella Chronicles and The Darkside Chronicles for PlayStation 3 at retail and PSN with mandatory PlayStation Move support.
No date was given on its release in Japan other than “coming soon”. A Capcom Europe rep has told VG247 there’s currently no announcement for a European release right now.
Resident Evil: Revelations, Operation Raccoon City get new showings
The event kicked off with a montage of past games in the series from 1-5, as well as glimpses from last summer’s The Mercenaries for 3DS and upcoming titles Revelations for 3DS and Operation Raccoon City for PS3 and 360. RE6 wasn’t among the clip show, however.
After the hosts came out, Kobayashi welcomed those in attendance before leaving the stage and getting on with the introductions of upcoming titles in the series. First off was 3DS title Revelations.
After the game’s Japanese TV ad aired, series producer Masachiko Kawata was brought out on stage to introduce a new trailer, as well as explain the game’s background. The game’s director and producer showed the game off to the audience and those watching online, with its co-op-centric Raid Mode also getting a run out.
Revelations launches in Europe on January 27 in Europe and February 7 in the US for 3DS. A demo is now available in the 3DS eShop in Europe and the US.
Kobayashi then came back to show an FMV-focused trailer for console title Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City for PS3 and 360 from Slant Six. The video featured the game’s playable Umbrella antagonists going up against RCPD forces, as well as those infected.
The trailer didn’t show a date for Japan, but Capcom’s previously confirmed it’ll release in the US on March 24 and March 27 for Europe.
During the show, Capcom was trying its best to tempt fan service into action. After the Revelations demo wrapped up, Kawata went into detail about upcoming merchandise that’d go on sale with the release of the game before leaving the stage.
Following the Chronicles HD Collection announcement, Kobayashi talked about an anime and the launch of Resident Evil STAR and Umbrella-themed glasses, as well as the series’s YouTube and Facebook channels after the Chronicles HD Collection was announced.
