Jim Carrey's Daughter Auditions for American Idol?!

Mikey McCollor

Last night, American Idol featured a contestant named Jane Carrey who has a pretty solid voice and was even kind of cute. Until they revealed that she was Jim Carrey's daughter and showed photographs of them together. And then she was never cute ever again for all eternity because she looks exactly like Jim Carrey.

Literally the first thing Randy Jackson said as she walked out on stage was "Does father know you're here?" They opened with it. After she got the thumbs up from all three judges, Randy Jackson made his purpose clear. "Tell father we say what's up. Tell him hollar at your dawg." He just wanted to remind her exactly why she's moving on to the next round.

"Someday, and that day may never come, I'll call upon you to introduce me to your cool interesting dad."

Jennifer Lopez, who was on In Living Color with Jim Carrey twenty years ago, asked the 24 year-old Jane if she remembered her. If she remembered her. As though Jane's life, since the age of two, has been an unending struggle to once again be given the opportunity to gaze upon Jennifer goddamn Lopez again. It's really, really hard for Jennifer Lopez to think in a non-Jennifer Lopez context.

And then, when Jane calls Jim Carrey, he gives some standard congratulations before saying "wow, this is gonna be an exciting year!" And Ryan Seacrest just loses it. Like, you know how you and I laugh at Arrested Development? That kind of laughter. Now that I think about it, it's got to be hard being Jim Carrey. Everyone likes you so much that they laugh at whatever you say. Without negative reenforcement, you never know if what you're doing is funny and therefore never get better. At that point, it's easy to get complacent and see your work suffer. Let's hope that never happens to Jim Carr—

Mmmmmmmmm.
