Lord Voldemort Reads Harry Potter Slash Fiction?!

Mikey McCollor

Lord Voldemort himself, Ralph Fiennes, was on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live! recently when host Andy Cohen asked him to read a short excerpt from some Harry Potter slash fiction. Watch as Fiennes does that thing where he chuckles softly before reading it so he can give himself some mental distance from the nightmare he's about to plunge into.

So that was weird, to be sure, but we'd find that scene uncomfortable if it was read by absolutely anyone in the world. What's really creeping me out here is how frightening Ralph Fiennes looks in just his day to day life. His face has gotten monstrous, hasn't it? I do wonder, though, if I'm just projecting Voldemort's visage onto him.

I guess he's always looked this way.

I actually went and Googled the story Fiennes read on the show and, um, I wouldn't recommend it if you enjoy the feeling "happiness". That said, it was definitely worth it to read the part where Harry wonders, as he and Voldemort are mid-coitus, "what would Dumbledore think of me now?"

I'll be honest, I had never heard the term "slash fiction" until today. But I guess it just refers to the slash used to join the names of two characters and imply their romantic involvement. So this is Harry slash Voldemort fan fiction. The problem, of course, is that if all you need is a slash to romantically link two characters together, they are far too powerful to be as accessible to the general public as they are. Hell, I can make a slash whenever I want. "/". Society needs to act - the government has to gather up all the slashes to prevent them from getting into the hands of those who would use them to commit atrocities.

We must not fail.
