Microsoft “keen” on releasing “constant updates” to Minecraft on XBLA

4J Studios has said the XBLA port of Minecraft could be the first game released on the console to see “constant updates”.

Speaking with Edge, chief technology officer of the firm Paddy Burns said Microsoft is aware that in order for the game to successful and similar to the PC version, it will require frequent updates, and is “keen” on speeding up the approval process.

“Microsoft knows that to do a similar thing that’s on PC where they constantly update it, that’s a very difficult thing to do on Xbox because you have to go through the full tests,” said Burns. “But they are quite keen to move towards that – they do see it as the future, so I think we might be the first to do constant updates.”

Still, the updates won’t be close in frequency compared to the PC version, which is something Burns said fans shouldn’t expect in the first place due to Microsoft’s testing process.

“But the whole turnaround of that testing they’re hoping to speed up, so we can maybe roll out every two months,” he assured. “We’ll have to see how that goes… I’m really looking forward to it being updated with patches and new features after it’s released.”
