Sega announces London 2012 – The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games

Sega is putting together a new tie-in for this year’s Olympics, with nary a Mario or Sonic to be seen.

London 2012 – The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games (henceforth referred to as London 2012 because gah) is expected in June on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Thanks to motion control support, both console versions will have an exclusive event – Beach Volleyball for Kinect, and 25m Rapid Fire Pistol for PS Move only.

There will be more than 30 events in total, including some left out of previous games, like Keirin, 10m Synchronised Platform and Trampoline, all in authentic London venues. You’ll be able to work through and single player, online and offline multiplayer and party play modes.

In a first for the official Olympics series, there will be online, global leaderboards – so every medal you earn will help push your nation into top spot. Obviously a heavy video game territory like the US will have a massive advantage here – just like real life, hem hem.
