Sega Solihull studio named Hardlight

By Johnny Cullen

Sega’s new studio in Solihull in the West Midlands is called Hardlight, a new job listing has said.

The name is mentioned on the posting, made on GI.Biz (via GAF), for the studio’s first title, which has already been confirmed to be a “unique action-adventure” game for a late 2012 launch on Vita.

“The team was founded with the ethos of staying compact, agile and focused – combining talent from a variety of game genres and backgrounds and working closely with SEGA R&D Studio to stay at the cutting edge of developments in technology, middleware and game experiences,” reads the call.

The Solihull studio, which is the third UK studio from the company alongside Creative Assembly and Sports Interactive, was announced last summer out of the realms from what used to be the old racing studio from Sega before it was sold to Codemasters.

When the studio was announced, Sega West product development boss Gary Dunn told VG247 it held six staffers following the sale of the Racing Studio to help form the Sega Technology Group from that location. STG is typically the first studio in the publisher to have first dibs on new hardware, such as Vita or Wii U.

It was from within STG that Hardlight was born.

It was hoped that details of the name would be announced alongside the actual project announcement, as said by Sega West president Mike Hayes in a VG247 interview during gamescom last August.
