The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the epitome of western RPGs, has proved a hit with Japanese developers.

Skyrim was the most chosen game in 4Gamer’s best of 2011 poll of over 80 Japanese developers, according to Gamasutra‘s translation.

Some notable RPG creatives gave their vote to Skyrim – Final Fantasy XIV producer Naoki Yoshida; Phantasy Star Portable producer Satoshi Sakai; and Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino. The Bethesda title was also highly favoured by western developers.

Portal 2 was the next most-liked western release, but Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception; Infinity Blade II; Battlefield 3; and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 all garnered repeat mentions.

One the Japanese side, Dark Souls was the favourite, coming in second place over all, followed by Catherine.

This is at least the second year in a row a non-Japanese game has been the number one pick; Heavy Rain topped the 2010 list.
