Activision and Hasbro have announced a videogame version of Battleship, which is in development at Double Helix Games.

The seek-and-find adventure game inspired by the naval strategy game, will contain a stand-alone story taken from Universal Pictures’ upcoming movie. The game will offer a combination of “strategic naval command” and first-person action. Players will defend the beachside against enemies and while ordering attacks enemy submersibles through swicthable viewpoints such as the overview “Battle Command” map, which will be similar to the the Hasbro game.

US ships include carriers, frigates, cruisers, destroyers, submarines and the USS Missouri Battleship.

Battleship will follow “elite demolitions specialist” Cole Mathis as he goes up against an “aquatic-based extraterrestrial peril” in Hawaii.

Here’s an official blurb: “Trapped in a veritable communications dead zone, Mathis must command the U.S. Navy fleet in a ‘siege on the sea,’ while simultaneously rallying the troops on land for a terrifying ‘war on the shore.'”

Battleship will release for PS3 and Xbox 360 in Europe and North America in May. “Uniquely designed” versions from developer Magic Pockets are to be released for 3DS, DS, and Wii as well.
