Guild Wars 2 World vs. World battles can contain up to 300 people on one map

ArenaNet has said world vs. world battles in Guild Wars 2 could last up to two weeks at a time, considering there can be three servers fighting on map supporting up to 300 players.

According to the latest blog entry from systems designer Mike Ferguson, combat will be balanced so that one server isn’t out spec’ed over another, and smaller groups will be able to battle it out just as much as the larger ones.

“We dreamed of a game where players could work together to capture objectives on the battlefield, like keeps and towers, claiming them for their guilds, then fortifications before defending them against hordes of attackers,” Ferguson wrote.

“With players from three different servers fighting each other, we knew that we would need a lot of different areas for them to fight over, and we wanted to have plenty of locations for guilds of all sizes to claim as their own.

“With this in mind, we created a number of different objectives that are designed to be captured and contested by large groups, small groups, or even just a few players.”

Players will also be able to construct siege weapons using a blueprint, and use the trebuchets, arrow carts, catapults and ballistae against opponents. Siege Golems will also be constructible should you need to bust a gate open or strike fear in the hearts of nearby foes.

It all sounds very interesting and much different than some of the PvP we’re used to seeing in MMOs. You can check out the blog entry for yourself through the link.
