How To Celebrate Leap Day Like You Give A Damn

Jessica Poter

Oh, elementary school: a time when special days were made special. It seems now the only recognition of holiday whimsy comes from the Google homepage. Well… guess what? February 29 marks Leap Day! I’m excited, and you should be, too! In the words of my elementary school principal, “Let’s make it a great day.”

Call Your Friends With Leap Year Birthdays

(source)

You know which friends were born on February 29. That’s the first thing they told you about themselves. Call ‘em up and make some cute little joke about how they turned five today. It never gets old! (The joke or the people).

Watch The Movie Leap Year

I actually haven’t seen this one yet. Have you? Do you want to watch it together? Amy Adams, not bad! Seems festive! Bring popcorn (leaping kernels)!

Do Parkour About Town

What better day to leap around than the day named for such an action? Now is the time to practice your parkour skills anywhere you please. You’re a spritely patriot, dammit.

Make A Time Capsule

Gather memorabilia from the past four years and put it all in a time capsule. Open your treasure chest on the next Leap Day four years from now. You’ll feel like you’re about to graduate from something.

Play Leap Frog

After age twelve, the childhood playground game Leap Frog turns awkwardly sexual. If you’re into that kind of thing, round up some friends “to commemorate the day.”

Leap To Conclusions

Oh, yeah, I said it. Feel free to make a snap judgment about how much time I spent on this article. Or you could just skip this point and leap down to the next sentence. (BOOM!)
