Inversion release date set for June, mobile version announced

Namco Bandai has ponied up a release date for Saber Interactive’s Inversion.

The gravity-defying shooter will launch in the US on June 5 and arrive in Europe on June 8, on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Inversion was delayed from its intended February release at late notice, apparently for polishing.

In this latest update, Namco Bandai said the extra development time had been put towards “a comprehensive multiplayer component, including extensive competitive and co-operative modes”.

Interestingly, the publisher’s has also revealed the game will be accompanied by a mobile app for Android an iOS. Called The Inversion project, the app is a full-blown third-person shooter with all the bells and whistles of the core game, and will apparently introduce the game’s world when it launches later this year – presumably around the launch of the PC and console versions.

Inversion’s claim to fame is that players can manipulate gravity to create cover, throw enemies around, and pass through zero gravity environments. Developer Saber Interactive was responsible for the poorly-received Battle: Los Angeles, but also contributed to Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition.
