Winners are chosen in a fairly arbitrary way in the Mario Party games, where you can win every mini-game and still lose because you rolled the most 3s or blinked the least. Honest to God, playing Mario Party is like getting a membership to a Gym that's next door to a Jack in the Box. Any progress you make is going to be wiped out immediately afterwards. Since there is no progression, the mini-games themselves must be incredibly fun, since the overall experience is not going to save it. Thankfully, Nintendo has a rigorous testing process that kept some of these less-than-stellar mini-gamoes out of Mario Party 9.
Scanning documents
The fact that this game was so close to making the final release made Nintendo realize that they had to stop play testing the game with their tax preparers at H&R Block.
Survive on a life-boat
The idea of a mini-game where, in real time, you stay still to conserve your energy and use the Wiimote to aim your urine stream into a bottle that God willing you won't be forced to drink could have obviously used another couple drafts.
The entirety of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Maybe in Mario Party 10.
Draw Your Family
While using the Wii pointer to be the first to finish a drawing of your family seems like a great Mario Party mini-game, this game had to be cut after too many testers drew their fathers as black scribbles holding beer and blood.
Bank robbery
Not one single play tester felt good about what they had to do to win this mini-game.
Knife throwing
This game worked by having a single enormous target on the screen and all four players would throw their Wiimote at the center. The fact that this game was so close to making the final release made Nintendo realize that they had to fire this play tester.
The butterfly ribcage trap from Saw III
This mini-game had to be cut from Mario Party 9 when developers noticed that it had already been included in Microsoft's Viva Pinata: Party Animals.
