Eleanore Macnish, the mother of a ten-year old girl, got the surprise of her life when she allowed her daughter to download the 'Nickelodeon Addicting Games' app. Hey it was free! And even though it did have warnings of infrequent/ mild cartoon violence, profanity and crude humor, it was Nickelodeon! A brand name pretty much synonymous with kids. What could possibly go wrong?? Well, it was kinda of wrong. Like Rule 34 Dora kind of wrong.
The really offensive 'game' on the multi-game pack, is something called the 'Ingenious Personality Quiz'. Which determines your personality based on the selections you make when given a series of choices. And the choices are NOT things like 'Krabby Patty or Barnacle Loaf? Which would you prefer to scarf down?" Wait...does that sound dirty?
The choices on the quiz are pretty NOT kid-friendly! Topics include questions about cougars, tasing, tagging and girls kissing (not that there's anything wrong with that!). Macnish was particularly offended by a choice her daughter was expected to make regarding a drunk friend. Do you help or do you film it and post a clip of her trauma on YouTube...decisions, decisions.
I was most amused, I mean offended by the 'greatest fear' question. Given the choice between seeing a ding dong and living in a trailer park, I think we'd all have to choose trailer park as the scarier thing. I mean you're pretty much gonna see unwanted ding dongs there as well....am I right? Might as well just see the ding dong in nicer digs.
The really sad part of the whole thing, is that after Macnish's daughter took the quiz, her personality was rated "Gutless Wonder", probably for picking all the things that any ten-year old girl should've picked. I don't know about you, but I feel like Nickelodeon has some 'splaining to do! And I guess it's just a sign of the times that parents need to be cautious about anything their kids want to download. Nickelodeon has yet to give a statment regarding the controversy. Now who's the gutless wonder...hmmmm? Bad Nickelodeon!
