Notch: Psychonauts 2 a “sound investment” but “nothing concrete”

By Brenna Hillier

Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson has reiterated his belief in Double Fine’s Psychonauts 2 but also reconfirmed that neither company has anything to announce.

Speaking to Eurogamer at GDC 2012, Notch said Psychonauts 2 “would definitely sell, so it’s a sound investment” but also that “nothing concrete is happening”.

A Twitter conversation between Persson and Schafer sparked hopes the pair could make a sequel to the much-loved platformer happen. Notch later poured cold water on fans’ hopes by admitting that Psychonauts 2 is a great deal more expensive than he expected – and that he’d been joking.

But if Notch had the publishing power he’s popularly credited with, there’s one old school project he’d like to resurrect.

“Actually Dungeon Keeper 3 would be fun, but that’s so stuck in licensing hell that that’s not going to happen, ever. But that would be fun,” he said.

“It would be interesting to invest in some games that I think would really do well and that are actually good games as well – games that I want to see happen.”
