Stardock has said it plans to announce a range of games, tech and new products during the next 18 months, thanks in part to the sale of its digital distribution platform Impulse to GameStop.
The firm sold the service last year in order to free up resources for game development and so it could release its titles on Steam and other digital platforms.
In its annual Customer Report, the firm noted the industry’s transition to digital distribution platforms and mobile space, stating it feels with the shift towards “decoupled gaming” devices – separate display and input – such as Apple’s AirPlay tech will lead the sector within the next five years.
“The actual gaming experience won’t change very much except that the player will have a lot more flexibility as to how they play their games,” stated the report. “However, the development experience will change radically depending on which platforms emerge as the leaders in this future.”
Elemental: Fallen Enchantress and Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion are the latest titles in development from the firm.
Thanks, Gamasutra.
