Halo: Reach designer Christian Allen has decided “Crowdsourced Hardcore Tactical Shooter” wasn’t the best name he’d ever come up with, so come meet Takedown – the new name for his shooter project.
Allen launched a Kickstarter for his shooter three weeks ago, but only managed to raise $70,000 of a $200,000 goal.
Writing on Kotaku, Allen said he realised he had pitched the game poorly, failing to promote the veteran development talent on his team or differentiate from other shooters.
His fundraiser has since been completely revamped and is closing in on $100,000 – but still needs support to succeed.
Takedown, as it is now known, isn’t your average shooter – Allen wants to get away from “cinematic” experiences in favour of the “spiritual successor to games like the original Rainbow Six and SWAT series”. As such, it focuses on realism and squad-based play, with players expected to plan their approach and think tactically to succeed.
Takedown is expected on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Check out the pitch video below.
