Time Periods Assassin's Creed Should Explore

Mikey McCollor

It was recently announced that Assassin's Creed III will take place during the American Revolution, making it the third major time period the series has explored, following the Crusades and the Renaissance in Italy. Check out the trailer... it looks pretty tomahawk-y and awesome (unless you are a Redcoat)

America is cool and all, but what about Assassin's Creed 4? 5? 6? 7 even? What other time periods could be made interesting through the Assassin's Creed universe? Because, let's be honest, that is literally the only way history can be made interesting.

Mesopotamia circa 3500BC

Think about it — prominent members of society are assassinated every day in every time period. How often does one get the chance to develop the very first written language?

The Stone Age

This move would certainly simplify the game's controls. Y to swing club. X to swing club. B to swing club. A to swing club. Left stick to amble around. Right stick to swing club.

Ancient Egypt

Then you'd have to fight mummies!

Medieval times

I've seen enough Game of Thrones to know that you would have to assassinate dragons and white walkers, and history should have just stopped there because that is so goddamn cool.

Whatever time period Zelda is in

I don't know if Zelda takes place in our deep past, far future, or if it's a different universe and isn't even a time period at all. The point is, Assassin's Creed should have mirror shields and red potions.

Great Britain pre-World War 1

You could play as an assassin who is head of a household in the British Aristocracy, bringing an exceptional level of social tension to the game's controls. Hold A to avoid offending the more feminine sensibilities in the room. X to excuse yourself from luncheon. B to fire the footman with a positive reference for his next employer. Y to fire the footman without a positive reference for his next employer.

The 90s

Can you imagine rounding up assassins to join your brotherhood when they're so full of apathy? Indeed, in order to battle the templars in the 90s, you'll have to first battle the wave of progressive alt rock to awaken the citizens. Your missions will consist of assassinating the careers of the Spin Doctors and Gin Blossoms.
