Graphics nerds, prepare to preach. This teaser trailer for Theory Interactive’s Reset is like sex for your eyeballs.
“Everything you see in the trailer is straight from the in-game engine, no up-ressed textures, geometry or effects. What you see is what you will get. Except hopefully a little bit better since we’re not even in alpha yet,” the developer wrote on the trailer’s YouTube page.
Gamasutra reports that new start up Theory Interactive is the work of Alpo Oksaharju and Mikko Kallinen, former Futuremark staffers who worked on Shattered Horizons. The pair have created a new engine called Praxis to achieve the stunning results in the video below.
“The trailer is made entirely of in-game material, and I mean all assets, effects, everything, period,” Oksaharju said, noting that making separate tech for a trailer would be a waste of the team’s limited resources, and that licensed tech wouldn’t grant the same level of control.
“Mikko is quite the guru when it comes to tech. We knew that we couldn’t achieve the right kind of atmosphere using third party engines. And of course DIY stuff is cheap when working with a bootstrap budget,” he said.
Reset will be a “co-operative single player” game with an emphasis on exploration and puzzle solving, as players travel back in time to help themselves. Get a few clues as to how this works in the teaser below.
