Robot Entertainment has just confirmed that Orcs Must Die! 2 is on the way and will bring co-operative play to the series.
The game is going to feature a bunch of new and tweaked features including a redesigned spell book which’ll offer up more options of how to build defences in game. The new upgrade system is described in the PR as “enormous” and will cater to all manners of orc-slaying.
“In 2011, we implored players to kill the orcs,” Robot Entertainment’s CEO Patrick Hudson says in the PR. “As many as possible. Yet, only 3.4 billion orcs have been slaughtered to date. The only way we will get to a respectable orc death toll is by adding another killing machine and cooperative play. Bring a friend and destroy the orcs!”
The two-player co-op was a much-requested feature absent from the first Orcs Must Die! title. Combined with the new campaign, new enemies, new defences and new upgrade system it should prove a significant upgrade for fans. Players who own the original game on PC will unlock exclusive content in the sequel.
The game will be playable at PAX East this weekend and is coming to PC this Summer – no word on other formats yet. See the announcement trailer for yourself below.
