Guy Builds Real Life Mario Kart!

Mikey McCollor

No video game would disgust Ayn Rand more than Mario Kart. It robs you the feeling of accomplishment— getting into third place is voided by a banana peel. Second place is taken from you by a lightning bolt. And when you conquer all other racers, prove your merit, and find yourself in first place? A goddamn shell with spikes and wings will home in on you.

But that isn't how the real world works, and unfortunately those real-world principles haven't applied to Mario Kart. Until now. Yes, finally, a Mario Kart has been created for the rest of us.

At :029 he presses the the R button.

The kart is referred to as the "Chibikart" and was designed by Charles Guan, an MIT student. And that totally makes sense— MIT is where all the brilliant characters from sci-fi movies come from. It's basically Harvard for robots.

Guan maintains that the vehicle wasn't inspired by Mario Kart, which is a goddamn lie. That's like saying the character M. Bison in the Street Fighter movie wasn't inspired by the character M. Bison in the Street Fighter game.

Like, it just is that thing.

The kart is only a prototype, so don't expect one to be available at retail for quite some time. Unfortunately, it looks like you'll have to continue getting your real-life Mario Kart fix by throwing dead turtles at princesses.
