So If you've been on the internet at all in the past day or so, then I'm sure you know all about the friggin' saddest story in a long time, the bullied school bus monitor, Karen Klein. Well, the internet is showing it's rare good side and thousands have donated to a 'vacation fund' for the 68-year-old grandma, a fund that is currently at around HALF A MILLION DOLLARS!!! I would say we could pretty much call that a retirement fund at this point. On a side note..I'm totally available to be the bullying victim star of a viral video. I kid, I kid, she totally deserves it and I'm completely not JELLY! Well, maybe a little. HALF A MILLION DOLLARS!?!
Of course the world is also showing their bad side regarding this story as well. According to Capt. Steve Chatterton of the Greece, N.Y., Police Department, the bullies are facing the wrath of an outraged public. “Their families have been threatened. Their brothers and sisters have been threatened." BAH! That age old conundrum....is it okay to retaliate against bullies with bullying tactics? DOUBLE BAH! DAMN YOU HIGH ROAD!
Personally I would never threaten anyone with violence. But is it okay to have a dream that Casey Heynes is their school bus monitor next year?
To their credit, two of the boys have apologized to Mrs. Klein.“I am so sorry for the way I treated you,” one of the bullies, named Josh, said in statement. “When I saw the video I was disgusted and could not believe I did that. I will never treat anyone this way again.” Another student, named Wesley, said he feels “really bad” about the incident. Not that I'm judging... but Josh's is better.
A father of a third student said, “I would like it if he could do some work for you or help you in some way, I am embarrassed, angry and sad about the awful way he treated you.” Y U have ur daddy do it, tough guy?
All teasing aside, this is definitely a start. And in this day and age, it's nice to see parents doing the right thing instead of blindly defending their kids at all costs. Here's hoping Klein can take that much-deserved vacation and get back to doing adorable grandma-type things, like forcing butterscotch candies on people and being confused by things on the internet.
