An anonymous tipster said yesterday all GAME Australia stores would be closing by the end of the week as the retailer prepared for liquidation. Today, GAME’s administrators at PwC have told Kotaku Australia the claims made by the Gamespot source were inaccurate – there are no closure plans in place at the moment.
Furthermore, according to PwC’s Meghan Senior, any decisions made regarding closures can’t be made until later this month when the next creditors meeting is scheduled.
“Someone’s been going around saying that GAME is going into liquidation, but that decision won’t be made until the next creditors meeting,” said Senior, adding that the stores have prospective buyers, and should a purchase fall through, there are other options available to avoid liquidation.
Currently, the stores are holding a 40% off sale in order to move stock and get customers through the door.
“It’s not a closing down sale,” said Senior.
