Apple patents gaming controller, iPhone as universal remote

By Stephany Nunneley

A patent application from Apple shows diagrams of a console-style game controller the firm may or may not be planning on releasing in the future. Such is the life of a lowly patent sometimes.

According to the application schematics, the dual-analog controller would interact with the firm’s iOS devices as well as Apple TV.

As you can see by the diagrams posted over on GI International and Gamer Revolution, it looks quite a bit like Sony’s DualShock, what with the aforementioned dual-analog sticks, and the shoulder and face buttons. The diagram also shows it interacting with iPhone.

The patent also details the possibility of using iPhone as a universal remote for consoles, such as what looks to be an Xbox 360 in the shot.
