Kit Kat Pulls New Mascot Because Of Resemblance To Pedobear

Desi Jedeikin

You gotta love when companies try to be cool and fail in such a miserable fashion! Today's fail is brought to you by Nestle's. Yesterday they attempted to jump on the Instagram bandwagon with a HUGE announcement on their Kit Kat Facebook fan page. It went something like this:

"Drum roll please ... Kit Kat is on Instagram!"

Cue totally inappropriate photo.

Needless to say, the internets went CRAYCRAY with comments about the new bear mascot's similarities to another famous internet bear. Perhaps the most famous internet bear of them all. Pedobear. I mean I get the candy connection for sure, but that's an extremely unwholesome connection. It does make me kind of sad that I will never be able to look at a bear the same way again. Especially if he's with candy or children.

Where there's smoke, there's inappropriate touching of children.

Nestle's quickly removed the photo and released this statement, "We had never heard of Pedobear. We produced this photo – of a real guy in a bear suit - to launch Instagram through our Facebook. The picture is not Pedobear."  This baby's like "Um...I'm like fresh from the womb and even I know THAT'S FRIGGIN' PEDOBEAR."

Luckily for Nestle's,  it's much easier to remove a Facebook photo than it is to remove a HUGE advertising campaign. So they didn't lose a ton of money, just a little bit of face. The real question is, do we believe them when they say they didn't know who Pedobear was? Was that just another failed attempt at being internet hip? I find it a little hard to believe that NO ONE involved in the Instagram debacle knew about one of the internet's most famous memes. But I guess everyone's innocent until proven guilty. Except Pedobear. That mofo is for sure guilty of something!
