In a huge win for 18 year olds whose parents TOTALLY DON'T BELIEVE IN THEM AND THEIR DREAMS, 18 year old Abigail Gibbs has signed a six-figure deal to publish her first novel, The Dark Heroine: Dinner With A Vampire, with HarperCollins after initially releasing it online. The book is about a teen girl who is kidnapped by a vampire that she eventually falls in love with. That synopsis might sound familiar, as Gibbs does admit to being a fan of that OTHER vampire romance. "I really enjoyed the Twilight saga," she said to BBC Breakfast, "but I felt it could go further and be more bloody and edgy."
I don't know HOW you get more bloody and edgy than whispered
conversations about chastity.

As someone who watched almost the ENTIRE first season of Once Upon a Time, I'm pretty open-minded about stories and try really hard to give them their due. Since The Dark Heroine is online in first draft form, I read the first chapter. Well, most of the first chapter. I didn't have a ton of time this morning, as I had to spend 90 minutes learning new ways to fight bees.
REMEMBER, NO MATTER HOW PREPARED WE ARE FOR BEES, WE
ARE ULTIMATELY UNPREPARED FOR BEES.

But the little bit I did read was, you know, not bad. It was certainly better than what I read of Twilight's first chapter, which was so awful it caused me to literally question the nature of man.
"How could a book publisher, nay, HUMAN BEING, release something like
this on an insecure, teenage public? Is our species INHERENTLY evil?"

But regardless of the quality, does the world need more vampire fiction? Between Twilight, True Blood, Vampire Academy, Dracula: Dead and Loving It, and The Vampire Diaries, we're up to our FANGS in vampire fiction. And if this amount tof vampire fiction keeps up, soon even media bloggers like myself will have to write about ALL culture in vampire puns.
"After next summer's release of Die Hard 5, we're going to be up to our
FANGS in Die Hard movies."
