The 7 Big Differences Between High School and College

Will Weldon

Life, what is up with it? Well, it’s a cereal. Also a board game. And in addition to all that, it moves fast. So, as you are propelled forward through life, there is wisdom that can help you transition from one phase to the next. And I’m qualified to give it, because technically I’m older than most of you (I say “technically” because I was raised in a bomb shelter, and thus know little of modern day America). So, here now, are the 7 Biggest Changes Going From High School To College:

Skip As Much As You Want

You know how if you miss class, the school office will call home and leave a snotty voice mail letting your parents know you skipped History (who cares, it’s not like we’re living in the past!) Well say goodbye to that, because your college will only care the amount required of an institution who just wants your money (and it’s not like there aren’t plenty more suckers with student loans where that came from). Of course, you’re probably going to end up failing out, but WHO CARES, PARTY!!?!?!!?

Uh, “Substances”

Not getting into specifics, but you’re going to discover that, in college, way more of the people around you are into… “stuff”, because college is the place most people really start to “discover” life.

Textbooks

Do you hate money? If you said “Yes”, then I have good news for you (though, you might want to work on the whole talking to yourself thing, and also sort out your money issues) you are going to be be losing money LIKE CRAZY. Why? Textbooks. You are now buying your own textbooks. And your buying tons of them. And, while you’re blowing all that money, just remember, they’re going to be second hand.

Better Friends

Those animals you hang out with now? Say goodbye to them, because soon you’ll have options. Real, serious options. In high school I hung out with a Juggalo. In College, I did not (partly because Juggalos don’t go to college.)

Pick Your Classes

Math, Biology, Art: don’t like ‘em? HIT THE ROAD! You’re picking your classes from now on!

Choose Where You Want To Go

Choosing your classes not enough power to wield for you? Well you can also choose what school you want to go to! ANY SCHOOL IN THE COUNTRY (assuming you meet the grade/money requirements, you dummy/poor person).

The Music

Maybe your one of those high school students who’s really enlightened and you hate the music your friends listen to, or that the other kids listen at school listen to. But guess what? The music at college is going to be so, so much worse. And you’ll probably going to discover some great stuff, but I guarantee there will be so many more irritating jam sessions, and Dave Matthews listening parties, and Ben Harper-a-thons. So get ready to learn, and jam some plugs in them ears.
