Cyberpunk has been given a title; The Witcher has hit the Mac, and the REDKit toolset has been dated. Get updated on everything that happened during CD Projeckt RED’s special conference below.
Cyberpunk 2077
The Cyberpunk game will be called Cyberpunk 2077, and the RPG is a sandbox title which takes place in Night City.
“The Team has to love the material. The Team has to want to be faithful to the material. The Team has to have the skills to execute the material and see that vision through to the end. They have to be on fire with the desire to make an extraordinary game, and that leads, at last, to why we hooked up with CD Projekt RED, said Cyberpunk creator Mike Pondsmith.
CDP and Pondsmith said Cyberpunk 2077 “will be true to the essence of the cyberpunk genre,” with players thrown into the dark future of the year 2077 where advanced technologies have become both “the salvation and the curse of humanity.”
A multi-thread, nonlinear story designed for mature players will take place in Night City and its surroundings, where players will visit some of the places present in Cyberpunk 2020.
One area will include a combat zone completely taken over by gangs, where the player can visit the Afterlife joint and the Forlorn Hope.
The sandbox nature of the game and mechanics inspired by Cyberpunk 2020’s pen-and-paper system has been “fine tuned to meet the requirements of a modern RPG,” with plenty of guns, rifles, implants, gadgets and other equipment available to the player. They will need it when venturing around Night City, ya know.
A release date was not provided during the livestream.
Mac users rejoice
The Witcher 2: Enhanced Version has released for Mac on Steam and GoG. It is 25% off for the next 48 hours.
You can also get the original enhanced edition of The Witcher for PC and Mac for only $4.99 – but only for the next 48 hours.
The Witcher 2 has sold over 2 million copies since its release on PC and Xbox 360.
Other classic and new game titles will receive Mac version on the retail site later today as well.
Mac users who use the downloaded will also be given eight free games for free, and six games will be available for half price – 50 games are available for Mac now, and over 20 are on Mac for the first time.
Interplay games are also listed for a limited “pay-what-you-want” deal for the next 14 days.
“For any price they feel is fair,” users will receive eight games: Conquest of the New World, Jagged Alliance 2: Unfinished Business, M.A.X. and M.A.X. 2 – for example.
Paying more than the average community purchase will net a total of 20 games such as: Giants: Citizen Kabuto, Freespace + Expansion, or Descent 3 and its expansion included.
Top supporters who pay $34.99 or more receive the whole Interplay catalog available on GOG.com which included the Fallout games, MDK 1 & 2, Sacrifice, Descent, Freespace 2, and more.
Users who already own some of the games in the bundle will receive a giftable code for titles they have.
New games coming to the site include the physics-based puzzler Puddle and Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams.
Mod away pal, mod away
During the livestream of CDP’s fall conference, the firm also discussed the REDKit modding toolset, and showed a video, detailing how easy it is to create your own adventure and landscape in The Witcher 2.
The toolset uses the studio’s in-house REDengine, and it is currently in closed beta phase. During the conference, over 100 modding teams selected from a pool of over 600 squads were given access to it. These modders will assist in the development and “perfection of the tools and the game engine itself.”
REDkit allows any player to create a “living world” with the use of advanced landscape design tools, 24-hour day-and-night-cycle simulations and thousands of ready-made assets used in The Witcher 2. It also makes it possible to modify the original game and create non-linear adventures.
It will be a free downloadable update, and will be released during the first half of 2013 to all who own a copy of The Witcher 2.
Have a look at it in action below.
