War of the Roses to add new weapons, armour, modes and maps

By Brenna Hillier

War of the Roses will begin updating with free content drops next month, starting with a pile of new equipment but rapidly ramping into more weighty additions.

The free content drops are expected to begin in November. The first will be equipment-focused, and contain:

  • One new Milanese Knights Hospitaller crafted Heavy Armor with more than ten paint options
  • Seven new weapons: gothic mace, rondel dagger, halberd, Hospitaller pollaxe, horn spanned crossbow, new arming sword, and an Italian side sword
  • A new helmet
  • Four new visors

Once we move into winter, Fatshark will kick off further updates with two new game modes. The first, Pitched Battle, will apparently teach both Lancaster and York soldiers “to value their lives”, and goes into beta soon.

Two new maps on a winter theme will join the rotation, based on the battles of Wakefield and Towton, which took place in an extremely cold winter between December 1460 and March 1461. The additions include a new winter mechanic with which snow and sleet become a hazard to both factions.

All the new content will be added to the game for free, but will need to be purchased with in-game currency; you can purchase a pack if you’ve not put in enough hours to unlock the new gear you’re after. More details are expected over the next few months.
