Shadowrun Returns Kickstarter game delayed

By Dave Cook

Shadowrun Returns was fully funded via Kickstarter in April, due for a January 2013 release. However, the project’s release date has now slipped to allow more time for polishing. Get the details below.

Developer Harebrained Schemes LLC has confirmed that the PC, iOS and Android title will now launch between May and June 2013 instead, as a result of the Kickstarter project raising $1,836,447, far-exceeding its initial funding goal of $400,000. The increase in funds meant that the studio’s scope broadened, making for a bigger and more ambitious project.

An update on the Shadowrun Returns Kickstarter page reads, “As we announced a few months ago, we’ve backed off our original delivery date of January 2013. It might’ve worked for the scope of the game we originally envisioned but as our ambitions (read that “features list”) grew, so did the time we needed to deliver!

“Plus, we made a big move from our original top down camera to an isometric point of view and that took serious R&D time. Right now, according to our estimates, we’re looking at May or June.”
