Fantasy Life, Level-5’s latest 3DS RPG, is set to become a series following retail success in Japan.
Speaking to Famitsu, as translated by Siliconera from leak sources, Level 5 staff said their ambitions for 2013 include expanding Fantasy Life; the December release is said to be the first in a series.
Fantasy Life is currently in sixth place on Media Create’s Japanese retail charts, with sales to date of over 150,000, making it difficult to find in stores – although it’s also available on the eShop.
It’s worth noting that Fantasy Life sales pale in comparison to the new Animal Crossing, which it resembles in some ways. Animal Crossing has no real competitors, but Fantays Life’s popularity suggests a market exists for more of this kind of thing, so perhaps the next one will be more feature-rich and stand a better chance of tackling the Nintendo juggernaut head on.
No word on localisation yet, which is further proof the universe hates me.
