Logitech to exit console peripherals business

By Brenna Hillier

Logitech has announced its intention to cease manufacture of console accessories by the end of 2013.

In a statement published on GamesIndustry, Logitech said it was dropping a number of product categories that “no longer fit” with its “current strategic direction”.

Remote controls, digital video security and speaker docks are also getting the chop alongside console gaming accessories.

The serious trim down is a result of declining sales; Logitech noted a 14% year-on-year drop in its last quarter and is taking “decisive action” to trim the fat.

Logitech produced control pads, racing kits and headsets as part of its console product lines. It will continue to produce PC peripherals including keyboards, mice and headsets, many of which are gaming-oriented.
